Do I have to report GEMA free music?

The obligation to register stems from the statutory GEMA presumption, according to which it is initially assumed that repertoire subject to GEMA royalties is being played whenever music is used in public. Only by registering and submitting a complete set list can we verify whether only GEMA-free music was actually used. Once the check has been successfully completed, the invoice will be cancelled.

Use our price calculator on the online portal to register events featuring GEMA-free music:

  • Select the type of event that applies to you and enter the required details.
  • Register when prompted to declare your music usage.
  • There is a comments field in the shopping basket. Please state there that the event features GEMA-free music.
  • After the event, submit the setlist; the easiest way to do this is via the ‘My Setlist’ service on the online portal.
  • If you cannot find the GEMA-free track in our repertoire search, use the ‘Enter manually’ option and enter the required details there.
  • Tick the box ‘Report as GEMA-free’ below the set list if the music is exclusively GEMA-free.
  • Once your submission has been successfully verified, your invoice will be cancelled.
